Au coeur du Marais à Paris, ce musée, initié en 1967 par François et Jacqueline Sommer, propose une exceptionnelle galerie animalière où l’art est venu parfaire la nature. Dans le décor profus et théâtralisé des hôtels de Guénégaud et de Mongelas, datant du xviie et xviiie siècle, le visiteur peut s’égarer comme dans cette salle. Tantôt observateur, tantôt observé par ces animaux, il s’interroge devant la possible duperie d’une présentation scientifique. La référence ici à la licorne, omniprésente dans les anciens cabinets de curiosités, témoigne d’un impossible renoncement à rêver.

In the heart of the Marais district in Paris, this museum, started in 1967 by François and Jacqueline Sommer, offers an exceptional animal gallery where art perfects nature. In the profuse and theatrical décor of the hôtels de Guénégaud and Mongelas, dating from the 17th and 18th century, the visitor can lose his way as in this room. At times observer, at other times observed by those animals, he questions the possible deception of a scientific presentation. The reference here to the unicorn, omnipresent in the old cabinets of curiosities, shows an impossible renunciation to the act of dreaming.
