En Allemagne, Wolfgang Becker, conservateur de la Neue Galerie d’Aix‑la- Chapelle, nomme « nouveaux fauves » ou « nouveaux sauvages » (Neue Wilden) des peintres dont le travail montre « une vision onirique de l’agitation dépravée de la grande ville, une dialectique de l’érotisme ». Les nouveaux fauves s’organisent en groupes ou en collectifs, font des performances, des expositions underground. À Berlin-Ouest, Luciano Castelli, Rainer Fetting, Salomé, Bernd Zimmer sont parmi les fondateurs de la galerie am Moritzplatz et sont proches d’Elvira Bach. À Cologne, Walter Dahn et Jiri Georg Dokoupil font de même avec le Mülheimer Freiheit. À Düsseldorf, Peter Angermann, Jan Knap et Milan Kunc forment le Groupe Normal. Pour le critique Hervé Perdriolle, ces artistes empruntent la même voie que la figuration libre : « Jiri Georg Dokoupil, Walter Dahn ou Milan Kunc interrogent cette autre culture qui semble régir nos gestes et nos pensées. Ce qui unifie leur travail, c’est un mode d’approche “secondarisé”, ironique : un décalage par rapport à l’histoire que l’on retrouve souvent dans l’art allemand récent. »

In Germany Wolfgang Becker, curator of the Neue Galerie in Aachen, called these artists the New Fauves (Neue Wilden) seeing in them “a dreamlike vision of the depraved agitation of the big city, a dialectic of eroticism”. The second generation New Fauves movement – or the New Savages – formed groups or collectives, carrying out underground performances and exhibitions. In West Berlin, Castelli, Fetting, Middendorf, Salomé and Zimmer founded the Moritzplatz gallery and were close friends with Elvira Bach. In Cologne, Dahn and Dokoupil founded the Mülheimer Freiheit artist group. In Düsseldorf, Angermann, Knap and Kunc founded the Groupe Normal. For Perdriolle, they were all going in the same direction as figuration libre: “Jiri Georg Dokoupil, Walter Dahn or Milan Kunc question this other culture that seems to govern our actions and our thoughts. The common thread in all their work is an ironic “secondarized” approach: something that is out of sync with history, which is often found in recent German art”.
