Enfant, Enki Bilal a déjà conscience du poids de la politique. Son père, un temps tailleur de Tito, trouve l’asile en France pour ne pas adhérer au Parti communiste de l’Union soviétique. Marqué par l’Histoire, Enki Bilal ancre souvent ses narrations dans des contextes géopolitiques forts. Il a pressenti quelques grands bouleversements, comme la chute du mur de Berlin ou la fin du communisme. L’effondrement du régime soviétique est évoqué dans "Partie de chasse" en 1983. En 1990, une « épitaphe » y est ajoutée, en écho à la dislocation de l’URSS. Des illustrations de Bilal accompagnent un texte de Pierre Christin, scénariste avec qui il collabore à plusieurs reprises. L’une d’elles montre une étoile rouge, symbole communiste, fissurée et fichée au fond d’une piscine en ruine.

As a child, Enki Bilal was already aware of the weight of politics. His father, for a time Tito’s tailor, found asylum in France because he refused to adhere to the Communist Party of the USSR. Marked by history, Enki Bilal often sets his narratives
in strong geopolitical contexts. He foresaw a few great upheavals like the fall of the Berlin Wall, or the end of communism.
The collapse of the Soviet regime was alluded to in The Hunting Party in 1983. In 1990, an ‘epitaph’ was added, echoing the dislocation of the USSR. Bilal’s illustrations accompany a text by Pierre Christin, a scriptwriter with whom he collaborated
on several occasions. On one of the illustrations, a red star, the symbol of communism is visible, cracked and embedded at the bottom of an abandoned swimming pool.
